Engine Block 691m Advise Required.

Recommended Posts

I have taken out and stripped my 1600GT engine. While the unit is out, it is being checked over and a few "slight tweaks" :o will be carried out before re-assembling. Checking catalogues etc. everyone seems to relate to 681F or 711M but there is never any mention of 691M. The number stamped on the engine block is 691M 6015BA. Is this going to cause me problems getting performance parts for this block? Any advise gratefully received.

:D

i think the 691m block replaced the 681f and was used 1969/1970, not sure of any differences though :D :o

There shouldent be a problem, I think all that is different to the 711 is the mains caos are different, My mate races one a 619m I think, and this engine regulary sees 8200rpm, ALL the bolts are Cosworth, admittedly it is a serious piece of kit, even with a pre X flow head its been dynoed @153bhp

My capri (1970 1.6gt) has a 691M block but the head is off a 711M (mk2 escort), havn't had any fitting problems with anything (yet) :D

Everybody says for tuning you want a 711M engine (stronger block and "square" main caps). Well, it's also got thicker (heavier) cam followers, not what you want (you want the valve train to be as light as possible).

As was mentioned above, I believe the 691M was an interim engine made in 1969/70, sort of a "halfway house" between a 681F and 711M.

691M has got the stronger square main caps, and the thinner/lighter cam followers, a win/win situation!

I hope i'm not Hijacking this thread  But I've just bought a mkII Cortina 1600cc crossflow, The seller said it came out of a 1600 de-luxe. the numbers are (t6) 2737e6015b is this something the same?

Sorry If I'm butting in :o

I guess that engine number should be 2737e6015ba?

If so, it's a 8/1967-12/1968 Mk2 1600 engine, with the early "round" main caps, and the early thinner/smaller cam followers (same as on the Mk1).
